… I reckon it’s been over two months since I last updated this thing. I MUST try harder! I thought I’d write one now as I have a couple of hours to myself this afternoon. Nothing earth shattering to announce – just an update. I’m very excited to say that this evening, I fly out to Thailand for my brother’s wedding. For those of you who’ve been to see either ‘Storey’ or the covers band you’ll know Liam as our drummer, and a very good drummer he is too. Anyway, he is getting married in a few days, and has chosen the sunny beaches of Phuket to do it. Can’t say I blame them! Not only am I extremely proud to be one of Liam’s best men (Ryan being the other) but I’m also very excited about seeing Thailand – part of the world I’ve not visited before – so I have two weeks of sun and culture to look forward to before heading back to the UK. Hopefully I’ll have been inspired enough to write some new lyrics, music and maybe even a new blog post! (I won’t hold my breath about the last bit though). Upon my return I’ll immediately be greeted by several days of teaching, and a couple of gigs. One of which is with my covers band, which has just undergone a drastic name change! Up until recently, we were called ‘Strange Brew.’ A very cool name for a pub band we felt, but probably not so good for attracting the kind of corporate gigs and weddings we’re now looking to secure. And after several months of rehearsals and a few gigs under our belts we’re now in a position to be doing so. So… (drum roll please) we’re now called ‘UNDERCOVER’ – and it must be official, because it even says so elsewhere on this website! You now know where to send anyone who is looking for a funky covers band. Our next gig will be Saturday 5th May at ‘The Elgin’ on Ladbroke Grove, London. A fantastic bar, and one at which we’ve been fortunate enough to have secured a residency. So if you want to see some authentically performed covers, have a dance with your friends, while enjoying some nice beer or wine, then this is the place to do it! You just need to come down on the first Saturday of every month… unless we say otherwise of course, because sometimes we have other things on

A quick update on Storey – we’re REALLY hoping to get this thing moving again. With so many new song ideas floating around, all of which we’re very excited about, it would be a tragedy if we didn’t get them recorded. It’s not so easy now we’re all living a little further apart, but the miracles of the internet have meant we’ve been able to keep things ticking over. We really need to do more than that though, and I intend to do my part in taking things up a notch… starting with writing some lyrics while sat on the beach in the peace and tranquility of Thailand. I have also booked an 11 hour train journey from Bangkok to Chiang Mai during the second week, so no doubt I’ll get some time to my thoughts then as well. Speaking of which, I’ve been exercising like a madman in recent weeks, in preparation for Thailand, and that has included a lot of time running around Swinley Forest which is a 2 minute walk from my flat. Long running sessions around such beautiful surroundings are great for getting your thoughts in order and making plans. Not so great if you have a moment of inspiration and need to write it down though! But then again, as the legendary Jeff Beck once said, “if an idea is worth remembering, then I’ll remember it.”

Thanks for reading, I’ll be back soon. Take it easy.

Hello,

If you read my first blog post you may have noticed that I claimed I was going to write a ‘weekly’ blog on this site. Despite the best of intentions, that blog was written and posted on 20 December, making me some sort of liar. Anyway, I WILL try harder. The start of this new year has found me extremely busy, which financially is a good thing. I’ve paid the tax man this month, and had enough money left over to treat myself to a Nat King Cole CD (AMAZING!) and a new shed for my garden. Rock and roll – I’m very excited, as you can imagine! However, it also means I’ve been very short of time, and am struggling to keep up with such trivialities, as having a life, keeping in touch with my friends and returning calls (apologies if you’ve called me about guitar lessons recently – you’re on my list of things to do). Writing a blog, has unfortunately fallen even further down the list of priorities…

On the up side, my car wouldn’t start this morning! As I’m sat here with the sun pouring through the window into my living room on this freezing cold morning, I’m watching a mechanic busy at work under my bonnet, because at 7am, my car decided not to start; even with the assistance of jump leads and my neighbours Vauxhall. The ‘up side’ I was referring to, was the fact that as I can’t get into London until my car is repaired, then I’m stuck at home, with a couple of hours to kill. This has enabled me to do over an hour of piano practice (nothing better for calming me down) and I’m now feeling much better about the Adele song I’ve agreed to play at my friend’s wedding in July. And then as you can see if you’re reading this – time to write my next blog entry.

Nothing ground breaking to say today, although I will mention that however pleased I was to see ‘Mr’ Fred Goodwin have his knighthood revoked, it doesn’t remove the fact that this was clearly a politically motivated decision to provide a smokescreen for all the banker’s bonuses which are currently heading out of RBS and all the other banks, much against public approval. Mr Cameron must be very blind if he thinks no one will notice that, but a fair decision anyway.

Anyway, onwards and upwards. I believe my car is ready – please check the downloads page for a free mp3 – a remix of a Storey song (2010 single Footprints) by my friend and former student Jack Robert Hardman. Jack’s debut single is coming out next month, so more on that on my next blog post next week/month! (delete as applicable).

Take it easy.

Thanks for visiting my new website – it’s been hard work, but a lot of fun putting this together over the last few weeks with the guys at Busyview. I’m very pleased with the results though, and particularly to find that I had a blog from which to tell the world my thoughts (except my deepest darkest thoughts - I’ll keep those for myself!)

I’ll keep this first post quite brief, but I’m looking forward to trying to update it every week, and I’ll try to write about a variety of things – not just music, and not just Peterborough United – promise! Hopefully then a few people will want to keep coming back for more once in a while.

After feeling particularly un-festive for a while, I’m now actually looking forward to Christmas, and catching up with a few old friends and my rather large extended family.

Happy Christmas!
